Old friends, new rock

We went to see The Get Up Kids, who are old friends of mine from home, play at 9:30 Club last week. Tuesday to be exact. I only really get to shoot shows at 9:30 when my friends play there. It’s always fun as they have the barrier up and you can get right up front without having to push your way through the people in the front row. I always hated that guy and I hate being that guy even more. There are more pictures from that night on the site in the bands section as well as on my Flickr page. It was fun to see them all playing together again. The old songs still sound good and the new ones are pretty great as well. Makes me hope they go ahead and do another record.

Talking to Rob and Ryan we realized that we have known each other since 1995 which is 14 years. We only hang out when they come through town with TGUK or whom ever they are playing with now. In Rob’s case it’s Spoon. I guess in 14 years we’ve only spent a total of a couple days worth of time together. There is always the text and e-mail communication, but I’m terrible at keeping up with people, so that’s not all that frequent. Still out of all the people that I got to be friends with from that time in my life, they are the only ones I see and talk to on a regular basis. It’s because they come to me I suppose. No matter where I’m living, I can pretty much count on seeing at least one of them about twice a year. I’m going to have to return that favor at some point and make my way to Lawrence, Kansas to spend some more quality time with everyone. Not that backstage or on the tour bus isn’t quality time, but it’s different drinking a beer with someone in those situations than on their front porch. I should also try to track down more of my old friends and stop being lazy about keeping in touch.
